How I Came Up With My Blog Name: B Equals Happiness

(Image isn’t mine, obviously. But its elements resonate with me: tea, chocolates, letter A, and Keep Calm and Carry On pin? I could’ve taken this photo! But I didn’t because I have ZERO photography skills. Haha!)

The reason behind the blog name “B = Happiness” is somewhat corny. Okay, it IS corny. “B” is me and the #architecthusband’s term of endearment since our boyfriend-girlfriend days. It’s that simple.

More than five years ago, I already created a blog in Tumblr with the same name, where I just posted funny conversations between me and my husband, who was still my boyfriend at that time. Sadly, I was not able to keep the blog alive (because we ran out of funny things to say to each other—KIDDING! Facebook was to blame—it was so convenient to post status updates, so I found myself posting on social media more often than logging into Tumblr), so Tumblr had to take it down—but the content is still intact (making a mental note to download everything and send to my email as backup), thank God!

When I was thinking about the name for my new personal blog, I didn’t want to use “B = Happiness” anymore as I thought it was juvenile. With this new blog, I plan to share my stories of marriage, parenthood, breastfeeding, balancing work and life, spirituality, and volunteering, to name a few. So, the #architecthusband talked some sense into me (for the nth time!), convincing me that all those things I enumerated contribute to my happiness. And that “B = Happiness” is the perfect name for my blog.

But, why “B?” Nope, it doesn’t stand for ‘baby’ or ‘babe.’ It is “B” as in “bading (gay)” (apologies for our gender insensitivity!) because the husband has more finesse and is finicky about almost everything, and “bingi (deaf)” (so sorry for the political incorrectness!) because I speak too loud and my sense of hearing is weak.

That’s pretty much it—told you it is corny! Hehe… Since you’re still here, why don’t we play a little Get To Know Each Other game? Sharing with you a few tidbits about myself (which I’ve lifted from my answers published at a fun office newsletter) and feel free to share yours by answering one, two, or all three questions below. GO! 😊

  1. If you could live anywhere, where would it be and why?
I haven’t traveled that much, but when we held our honeymoon in Bali, Indonesia in 2015, we honestly considered staying there for good. We love the Balinese food, their culture is so rich, the people are so warm, peaceful, trustworthy, and trusting (we ran out of dollars, so our driver offered to lend us money, haha! Good thing BPI has 24/7 banking service), and everything is affordable (they have private villas with their own pool and kitchen that only cost P5,000 a night (around USD100)! That’s just a standard four-star hotel room in Manila!). We’ll definitely consider living in Ubud, Bali when we retire. (It’s free to dream, right? 😊)
  2. What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Depends on who I’m with. I love karaoke! If it’s family, Alanis Morissette‘s Ironic or Hand In My Pocket or The CranberriesZombie or The CorrsBreathless; if college friends, Spice GirlsStop; if South friends, Imago‘s Akap or Sundo or Coldplay‘s The Scientist; if childhood friends, any Eraserheads, Rivermaya, or Parokya ni Edgar song; if with my husband, any Beatles song or Jason Mraz‘s I Won’t Give Up.
  3. What’s your secret talent?
I don’t have any. If you ask my husband he’ll answer: “mang bwisit” (“be annoying”). Haha! That’s why you may also call me “#Pamwisweet.” Kidding aside, not sure if it’s a talent, but I could get ready (as in shower, tooth brush, apply body lotion, and comb hair) in less than 10 minutes when I used to wake up past 4:00 am for a Thursday worship service [I am an Iglesia Ni Cristo member].

PS: Tagging this under “BREAD AND BUTTER (All in a day’s work or business)” to keep me disciplined as I won’t be able to consistently write blog posts if I do not treat it as work or business. That’s just me. 😊

So excited to read your answers! You may leave them below as a reply or you may send me a direct message on Instagram or email me at bequalshappiness@yahoo.com. Keep in touch!

PPS: Working on how to reply as “Abbie” and not “bequalsh-admin” to your comments. If you could share tips, that would be awesome! Haha!

  1. Amazing post. Thanks for sharing! I love the name—it’s very unique. The name of my blog is: The Married African Millennial Professional (TheMAMP) it’s a few of the many identities I wear daily. If I could live any place in the world, I’d choose to live overseas in a safe country where I’d have access to amazing schools for my children and have the same freedoms that exists here in the U.S. That was a hard question! 🙂

    1. Abbie says:

Aawww… Thank you! I love your blog, too! 😍 TheMAMP is so catchy and so easy to remember! Haha! Sorry for the hard question! I love how selfless your reason for choosing where to live is. Hope all countries have access to great education and freedom. 😊
